The UPLB Interdisciplinary Center on Food Security is one of the 18 virtual centers of the UPLB. ISCFS seeks to promote food and nutrition security through research, instruction and extension. It aims to generate knowledge and technology through multi-disciplinary approach in research, creating a platform for discussion and consultation, mainstreaming food security in curricular programs, and formulating policies and information to promote food and nutrition security through broad based participation of stakeholders.

As an initial activity, the UPLB-ISCFS will conduct a six (6) round-table discussions (RTDs) to provide a venue for exchange of knowledge, identify gaps, and ways forward for a more integrative approach to food and nutrition security.

The first of the RTDs is on the topic about “Methodologies for Assessing Food and Nutrition Security” which will be held on August 18, 2014, 1:00PM at the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Compound, Taguig City.

The UPLB Interdisciplinary Center on Intergrated Natural Resources and Environmental Management in cooperation with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) is pleased to invite stakeholders to the National Conference on Integrated Natural Resources and Environment Management this coming September 25-26, 2014.

With the theme "Learning Lessons, Sharing Knowledge: Strengthening the Role of INREM in Sustainable Development," the conference will bring together INREM stakeholders in the country and facilitate sharing of ideas; synthesise knowledge about INREM-related initiatives on lake and river basins, landscapes, small islands and rural-urban areas; establish a network among INREM stakeholders in the country, and to develop and INREM RDE agenda for the country.

The Interdisciplinary Studies Center on Food Security (ISCFS) is pleased to announce the upcoming activities which intend to make the public aware of the current activities that the center is doing and present the food and nutrition security issues as one of the important focus and concerns of the University of the Philippines.

ISCFS will kick off a series of Round Table Discussions (RTDs) this coming August to October 2014 that aim to expand the knowledge base on food and nutrition security, create awareness on food and nutrition security issues and challenges in the country, determine current gaps that can be addressed through research and development and advocate policy reforms to achieve food and nutrition security.

The University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) will launch 18 new and existing interdisciplinary studies centers that focus on the advancement of scientific and technical knowledge on important areas in which the country is facing challenges and problems on March 4 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila. The launching coincides with a Science and Technology Forum and Exhibit which will also be held at the same venue from March 4-5.
